An Announcement

I've been sitting on this for what feels like forever (but it's really only been a month), and today I got word from agent that I can FINALLY tell people about it.

The Trylle Trilogy has been optioned for a film. Terri Tatchell - Oscar nominated screenplay writer and Bradbury Award winner for District 9 - is going to adapt the screenplay for the trilogy.

Now, before you get too excited, I'm going to clarify - she's only optioned to write the screenplay. This is no guarantee that this will be a movie. Things fall apart all the time for various reasons. And I have no idea how long it would be before a movie would be released, if it were to even come to frution.

With all that said - I am still very, very excited. Terri Tatchell is tremendous. Regardless of how this all turns out, it really is an honor that she wants to do this, and it's still pretty neat that this happened, even if Switched never becomes a film.

Will Switched ever be a movie? I honestly don't know. What I do know is that I'm very excited, and at this point, I'm cautiously optimistic. Also, Terri Tatchell thinks Michael Wincott is awesome. And she's Canadian. And District 9 was a really rad movie.

So that's some of the big news I've had going on. It is really awesome.

  11. That's awesome! I was thinking (while reading them) they'd make great movies. Something new and different than what Hollywood has been putting out. I do ask one thing...PLEASE make sure they stick to the book as best as humanly possible. So many good books have been destroyed by Hollywood and screenwriters who clearly have never read the books. There's enough going on in all three books that there is no need to throw in extra conversations that never happened, or new people that weren't part of the original story, or extra "scenes" that were never there. I hope it does become a movie and I hope they do the books justice. Congrats!

  51. Amanda:

I'd say Three Cheers but I think you deserve a heck of a lot more than that - at least an even dozen.

In so many ways your success as an indie is an inspiration for me and countless others. Thanks for sharing so much with all of us and please take some time to enjoy this - it's amazing.

But you know what? Hollywood and movie theaters across the world are also lucky to have a chance to display your work. So it's really a win/win and life just doesn't have enough of those.

  52. You have such an amazing imagination and I would love to see ALL of your stories come to life on screen!!! I've enjoyed reading all of your books and look forward to more!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'll keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer.

All of your books would make excellent movies.

The Trylle Trilogy is my favorite and I can just imagine it on the big screen. Lord of the Rings watch out!

Hollowland would rock, too, but in a different way.

  54. Amanda-- I know you read Joe Konrath's blog, but I have never seen anyone on there get optioned for a screenplay. It's exciting news. Question> do you, as an author, get paid for the option of the screenplay, or only if the screenplay sells? Is it a spec thing, the screenwriter wants to do it and puts in time and effort and you share the revenue if it sells? Only if it's made into a movie? Percentage profit for you, or simply a one time fee to sell the rights? Do you have any say on the final product (screenplay), or do you sign away the rights? Did it take an agent (and a fee) just to hook you up with the screenwriter? Is the screenwriter working for a studio, or independent (and thus they have an agent to sell the eventual film rights? Many questions, and I certainly am not asking you to divulge any numbers...it'd just be interesting for the budding ebook writer to know what it really means for this to happen. Thanks. Maybe a blog post for another day. Thanks, Amanda.

  57. Congratulations! What an Honor. I love love love the Trylle Trilogy and I really hope everything works out and it is made into a movie. I will be first in line to buy a ticket. Hmmm,I wonder who they will get to play Finn. Geez, I think they should make a movie about your success story. I'm really happy for you. You created a unique and engaging series and you should be very proud of yourself. Wow!

  58. Congratulations Amanda, that's amazing!!! I still haven't gotten around to reading your books yet, unfortunately. I've been more busy writing my own hahaha.

I've been working like mad because the article in USA Today that featured you really inspired me to start working full-time on my writing dream because I've been slacking a lot. And I was like WOW, she's 26, I'm 24...I'm bound to get there soon.

So while we may have very different writing styles and I tend to write more in the suspense/thriller genre with regard to my vampire series and my subject matter is pretty heavy stuff, your hard work has inspired me to do the same.

I'm still working with the traditional publishing route for my vamp series. I've gotten 3 rejections so far, but it hasn't stopped me.

I've since decided to explore other endeavors by finishing my YA novel, "Blue Car Racer" and e-publishing on Kindle when I'm done. This should also be an interesting experiment in how good I'll have to be at self-promotion.

I don't know how you do it all, you're amazing.

Anyways, just wanted to drop by to say thank you for your inspiring story and sharing all you did to get there. It's certainly improved my attitude toward writing.

Congratulations again!! May all your dreams continue to come true =)

  60. I think I love your story of becoming a recognized author just as much as I love reading your books! To me, this whole story of perseverance to get your work out there is also the stuff of movies. I am ridiculously excited for you. I do believe that this would make for a fantastic movie. The way you described the landscape of Forening will make beautiful scenery! I think it's safe for you to believe that your dream is coming true!

It caught my eye the minute I read the first paragraph; I could not stop reading. I was on a weekend trip with friends and they were complaining that I was reading during the whole trip. I enjoyed Trylle Trilogy so much that I am reading it a second time. Thank you for bringing something different and exciting to people who enjoy reading.
