Sigh....
This is a picture of my office from at my old house:
This is a close up the fantastic Christian Bale poster that my mom got me (from France, oddly enough):
In the process of moving, it was torn. I left it behind. I can only assume it is in the garbage somewhere. So now I don't have Christian Bale staring at me, looking vaguely disapproving.
I wanted the poster as a motivational tool, and it really did work. In my mind, Christian Bale is like the human incarnation of perfection. People always take that to mean that I find him really attractive, when I don't, and I am in fact slightly terrified of him. But fear is a very good motivation.
It's just anything he wants to do it, he does it, even if it seems impossible. Anything less than perfect isn't good enough. But he always manages to achieve it, which is what I find so stunning about him. It's like he's invincible.
Anyway - the moral is, when I think, "I don't want to write this chapter right now. I'd rather be watching Archer or reruns of Income Property on HGTV." Then I would look up and see Christian Bale, and I'd be all, "He wouldn't go watch Archer. He'd write like 15 chapters tonight, while doing push ups, and learning Japanese." And then I sigh and go back to work, because that's what Christian Bale would do.
So I need a new poster. I've looked at other Christian Bale posters and they're not good enough. I can mostly find Batman ones, which oddly enough, drives me nuts.
Here's a random blog from last year where I end up talking about how Christian Bale is better than our government, for no apparent reason. I'm sharing it with you, because I like it, and I like to share things. So you can read that: here.

Yeah, he's pretty cute!
ReplyDeleteDo you not like him Bruce Wayne even, or just dressed as Batman.
ReplyDeleteI always liked this still:

wooow. you love him a lot :) I love P!nk. She inspires me :D

Interesting motivational tool. I never thought of Christian Bale that way. I just enjoyed his acting.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, you're my Christian Bale poster. I worked late last night, and was able to do a lot of editing there. Was exhausted when I got home. I read ur post and pulled out my laptop to get back to it. Thank u.
ReplyDeleteAwesome post. You're so right, and I can't believe I never realized how motivational Christian Bale could be! Heading out to buy a poster. Hope my husband understands.
ReplyDeleteI'm not ashamed to admit this. I loved Christian in the Disney musical Newsies. He was so adorable then.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know more about the cork board in the picture. :)
ReplyDeleteI would find an in depth blog about your organizational system and creative process fascinating.
Perhaps instead of another full picture, you could make a collage of just his eyes and then paste on the letters WWCBD.
I have to agree with the Karamel. When I get tired and want to watch Hulu I say, "What would Amanda do?" Which is always answered with "Write!" You are an inspiration to many of us aspiring authors. You're our Christian Bale, and we thank you.
ReplyDeleteHere's a good one

Too bad there aren't ones of just him from Equilibrium. That would be perfect!

Call me ignorant, but I had to google to learn who Christian Bale is. :-S Since my middle name should be Procrastination, my motivator looking down from the wall should be someone strict and definitely well trained in guilt laying. :) That and only that would work for me ...
ReplyDeleteI like Christian Bale in Newsies, when he was just learning how to fake a New York accent.
ReplyDeleteWas anyone else astonished to discover he's actually British?
I think he seems much less intimidating with his actual accent. It softens him somehow...
I love the idea of a paper someone staring down at you for motivation.
ReplyDeleteBut like others on here said: you're the motivation we use to keep going.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Oh, and BTW - I checked out the link to your previous post about Christian Bale. That last line is awesome. Think I'll tape it to my wall.
if you have an image of Christan Bale you like you can make your own poster on http://www.cafepress.com/. I personally made my mom an apron for Christmas with our dog lol
ReplyDeleteChristian Bale is the only man I've ever seen that I think looks really hot with facial hair.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised no one suggested ebay. This one is really close to yours:

There are quite a few and I think many of them are out of print. Good luck. I use tracking charts to motivate me. ^^
When the third Pirates movie came out, I bought a poster of Johnny Depp on a whim. I'm not really a poster person, so I never put it up. Then last fall I wrote a book about pirates, and I thought it would be help me feel piratey. (For the curious, I also have a pirate hat.)
ReplyDeleteNow I look at the poster, and I see Johnny looking like he could take on the EITC single-handedly, and I think, "This chapter wouldn't stop him. He'd just pull out another sword and slash it to pieces."
Yeah, motivational tools are great.
He was brilliant in Howl's Moving Castle. I love Christian Bale.
ReplyDeleteI used to keep a picture of David Lynch on my desk for the same reason. I should make a poster that says, "Get back to work!"
ReplyDeleteYou should go to iceposter.com they have just about every christian bale pose ever taken, including some steamy, drool worthy ones. I guarantee you'll find something there you like.
ReplyDeleteI had the BIGGEST crush on Christian Bale, especially when he was in "Little Women" as "Laurie"! Anyone else? :)

Christian Bale is an incredible actor. His performance in The Fighter is phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteChristian Bale got me through some tough times...just looking at that face was enough to get your blood pumping and your body up and moving about. I concur with the "fear him" part, but I possess the added physical attraction (course, he looked MUCH better as Preston in Equilibrium than as Bruce Wayne). However, thanks for not being one of those giddy, little girl fans of Christian Bale.
ReplyDeletewhat a great blog! you are so inspirational! if you get the chance to check out my blog i would love to see what your opinions are! :)

That's funny! No, Christian Bale would NOT watch HGTV. I bet he doesn't procrastinate EVER! Doing pushups while writing 15 chapters and learning Japanese... Ha!
ReplyDeleteYou know what makes me procrastinate? My cat laying on my bed. How can you resist a sleeping cat. I plop on my bed and bury my face in her fur. Then she gives her little greeting purry meow. Can't picture Christian Bale doing that ever.
Well ... here's a digital version of your old poster:

I LOVE Christian Bale too. Even after hearing his "Oh gooood for you" rant on set, I still love him. Have you seen Empire of the Sun? It was his first movie at the age of 13. Steven Spielberg cast him, getting his career started in a fantastic way!! I love the saying "that's what Christian Bale would do." I think I'm going to have to start using that on myself! Good luck in everything Amanda!
ReplyDeleteLOL . . . you could make a bracelet: WWCBD. What Would Christian Bale Do?
ReplyDeleteThis is a good way to motivate yourself though. You'll have to find another poster.
I feel the same way about Clive Barker, my favorite author. He's done everything he set out to do as a young man: theater, novelist, film director and producer, screenwriter, artist . . . and he's a smash success in every single one of those roles. Spiritually he is fascinating, his work and his interviews speak a kind of sense that I find lacking elsewhere.
I love the guy. I hope that one day I'll get to meet him.
Back to Bale: has anyone seen "The Machinist"? It hurt just to look at him, he was so emaciated and pale.
Still, a great actor.

this was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteChristian Bale is...yummmmmm.
ReplyDeleteExcuse me while I go to Google Images.
I wanted to visit and allow you to know how great I appreciated discovering your blog today. I'd consider it a real honor to operate at my business office and be able to use the tips shared on your web site and also be involved in visitors' responses like this. Should a position connected with guest writer become available at your end, make sure you let me know.
ReplyDeleteI find anyone who is successful at what they do to be great motivation to get off my backside and do some writing. But to have a poster up to help? Awesome idea! I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who'd be happy to send you a new poster of Christian Bale, Amanda... you could always try Christian's agent though lol
ReplyDeleteI'm happy just to read some of your interviews!!

I have to agree...Christian Bale has always been a hunk! I'm glad he is receiving more roles worthy of his acting chops! He's fantastic. Hopefully you can get another poster soon. ;D (http://lynnmswayze.blogspot.com/)
ReplyDeleteHeres a nice poster off of Ebay. Looks like hes thinking: http://cgi.ebay.com/CHRISTIAN-BALE-24X36-POSTER-PRINT-RECENT-PORTRAIT-/400103702368?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2809ff60#ht_1158wt_905
ReplyDeleteChristian Bale hit his wife....
ReplyDeleteI've loved him ever since LITTLE WOMEN.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to hang my old TITANIC poster over my bed and call it Inspiration. I'm positive the Hubs won't mind. :)
If you miss him a lot you should find a picture on the internet and use it as your wallpaper. You could even use the picture you have in this blog.
ReplyDelete@Nick: I was just thinking about The Machinist! He was absolutely phenomenal in that movie - it's where I get MY crush on him from ;)
ReplyDeleteI think he is really an amazing actor. His lighting-guy rant was kind of understandable to me. I'm sure we've all been in a situation where we think, "I am trying to do a job and you are just f*&^ing it up! Get out of both our ways!" I'm sure he felt bad about it later. Or maybe he didn't. Maybe writing 15 chapters while doing push-ups and learning Japanese doesn't leave any time for weaker human emotions ;)

ReplyDeleteEnjoy.
Great. Now I've got "what would Brian Boitono do?" stuck in my head running Christian Bale lyrics...
ReplyDeleteChristian Bale is terrifyingly serious :)
ReplyDeleteLove the blog! If you an intimidating Christian Bale, it's hard to go wrong with this...
ReplyDeletehttp://happygoluckyscamp.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/patrick_bateman.jpg
I think I need to go get a Christian Bale poster for my office. Except I do find him very attractive and might end up drooling rather than working...such a dilemma.
ReplyDeleteYour site brims with info and pure fun! As a fellow Minnesotan, I want to contribute a few laughs you'll enjoy--aimed at writers and readers. http://bobwetherall.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI suggest a picture of a honey badger. The honey badger would be stealing a cobra right out of a mongoose's mouth and then eating it in front of him. While doing pushups and learning Japanese. .
ReplyDeleteHe's probably my favourite actor for serious performances. Jim Carey takes it for everything else.
ReplyDeleteBale sounds like a right character off set as well. I'd love to meet or work with him; maybe get in a fist fight or have some drinks or something. Would be good fun.
