I had a spectacular if exhausting holiday weekend. I ended up sleeping pretty much all of Monday to catch on the weekend's festivities, and this whole week has felt like a mess of catching up and getting ready for Switched to come out and for all the traveling I'm going to do.
I have an idea for a fun vlog where I pronounce all the words in Switched that people seem to trip over, and I'm going to write a blog letting you know some other fun facts about the book. I don't know for sure when these blogs will post, but I'm going to say one will post over the weekend, and the other will post on Monday.
Oh! Also, I want to issue a challenge to all of you. I'm super psyched about the book being in stores, so if you see Switched in stores and take a fun picture of yourself with it in the store (assuming that this doesn't go against store policy), and share it with me (via Twitter or Facebook or blogs), I'll post my favorites on my blog. But I'm going to emphasize - don't do anything that will break the law or store rules. Fun is fun, but illegal is bad.
I do have some sad news, though. My beloved turtle, Jasper Tortuga, passed away this week. He'd gotten a respiratory infection in early November, and even though he went to the vets and took medication, he never fully recovered from it.

While I was very sad to see him go and he will be greatly missed, I do have a new addition to my family. He's a Russian tortoise named Gusgus Tortuga. He won't replace Jasper, but he's tough and adorable, so I think he'll be a good fit for my family.

Sorry to hear about Jasper!!! Loving the new glasses, and i am counting down the days also to switched... cant wait!!! totally taking a picture when i see them in store THAT WILL BE FUN!!

"illegal is bad"... does that mean legal is good? I think in a world where war is legal and plants are not, there is a lot of room for improvement, law wise... Just a thought! Wish you success with the book launch in stores!

ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so sorry about Jasper. I know how much you love animals, and how much it hurts to see them pass away. When I was little I had two turtles, Tortu and Tuga. When Tortu died, Tuga doubled in size in a matter of months and made many attempts to escape. Luckily for her, we lived in a sort of farm in the country and it even had a creek that ran behind it. I would let Tuga out for exercise in the fenced portion of our patio while the dogs and kittehs ran away in fear. One day, after about an hour of being outside, Tuga was nowhere to be found... She had escaped the fenced area and made it all the way to the river, just like Willy. Well, yeah I don't know if she really made it there, but why wouldn't she? She was a smart turtle and I believe in her turtle power.
Congratulations on your books hitting stores! I cannot necessarily say I know how it feels on your sort of level, but I just recently self-published my first story ("Murder on Laodicea Street") on Kindle stores and it is a cool feeling to have your work out there, in general.

Sucks that your turtle died. Some advice. Ive had my red ear slider for 20 years. However, ive had two tortoises and they've both died within a year at most. They look study but you need the right food and temperature. They're very picky.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I am a turtle parent myself & most people think they are easy to care for but that is one of the worst & most common misconceptions. We have an eastern box turtle & she's amazing! She's hibernating now & I miss her terribly while she's hibernating but she's healthier & happier every year. Your new tortoise is super cute. Congrats on your new baby. Rest in peace Jasper!!! On another note, I started & finished 'switched' today. Really enjoyed it. Anxious to read 'torn'. Thanks for a great read!
