Hey, It's Torn

Hey you guys, the re-release of Torn is out today. I'm pretty excited about it, because Torn is an awesome book. For those of you that don't know, Torn is the second book in the Trylle Trilogy. The first book, Switched, is out now, and you should check it out if you haven't.

Also, there's some new content on my website (www.worldofamandahocking.com), including this awesome new floor of the palace in Forening. You can check that out: here.

For those of you that do know about it, you may have some questions about the re-release of Torn. Here are some of the questions you may have, and the answers to them:

Wait. I thought Switched and the other Trylle books were already out. Are these new books in the series?

No. Switched, Torn, and Ascend were previously self-published, but St. Martin's bought the English world rights to them in early 2011. I unpublished all three books in mid-2011. Since then, they've gone through an editing process and are being re-released in both ebook and paperback. Switched came out January 3, 2012, Torn February 28, 2012, and Ascend April 24, 2012. There are still only 3 books in the trilogy.

How are the Trylle books different from their previously self-published versions? Are they different?

There are some differences, yes. The most notable will be fewer errors, since they've had a more intensive editing. They've been polished up and smoothed out, with a few things elaborated on. There are extended scenes, and the third book even contains an additional chapter. But there isn't alternate ending for the series. All the character's fates remain the same.

Additionally, each book contains a brand new, never-before-published short story. Switched has "The Vittra Attacks" which sheds some light on how the Vittra came after Wendy and what they plan to do next. Torn has "One Day, Three Ways" (my personal favorite of the three stores) which shows how three different characters spend a pivotal day from the book. Ascend has "Ever After" which  explains more of what becomes of the characters after the end of the book, and it's set roughly a year and a half in the future.

If I already bought the Trylle books as ebooks when they were self-published, will the new content be updated?

No, sorry. I can't even do that with my self-published books. I've made changes and updates, but when I re-publish them, they don't update to previously purchased books. It's just the way things are.

Can you tell us about any changes in Torn specifically?

I can tell you that while characters haven't changed, there is a new revelation to the book. I can't really say more than that without giving things away. It's more of a clarification than than an actual change, and the book is stronger for it.

Where can I get Torn?

Torn is available in ebook for all ereaders. The paperbacks are available pretty much anywhere books are sold, both online and in stores. There are links to buy the book from my website: here. The books are also out in audio format.

  16. Hey Amanda

Congratulations on your success and mainly to not quit during the years nobody knew you. Those days when you wrote your first posts on this blog thinking nobody will ever read a word you write. But your love for telling stories is well visible. I read Hollowland. I never read "Zombie stuff" before and never thought I will, but the book had a nice, fast, action focused pace like a good movie. Just what I like!

Keep beeing who you are, keep shining!
    Greetings from Switzerland
    Andreas

  17. Dear Amanda - I wanted to say hello. I'm Emilie P. Bush, and on the day Torn was released this week, I also released a book. Self Published - on amazon - and it made #1 on the hot new releases list, so I took a screen shot of it for posterity- you and I were side by side. Being #1 was cool - but knowing that you were such a ground breaker in taking control of publishing - that kind of rocked to be right there with you. If you want to take a look at the shot - you can see it on my blog - http://coalcitysteam.wordpress.com/2012/02/29/the-roller-coaster-of-launch-day/
    Well met! and thanks!

  18. There is a way to let readers download new content without having them re-purchase the books all over again. If you email KDP Support and notify them that there is a new "corrected version," then they'll email all the readers who previously purchased the books and let them download them with the new content at no charge.

The downside is that this can only be done for the self-pubbed books, and redownloading them will make the readers lose any highlights/bookmarks/notes they have.

  20. Amanda, Switched took me completely by surprise. So did your story. I am trying to break into the publishing world with my debut novel Mythica. Switched reminds me so much of Mythica it threw me off. Although my book was written a few years ago and is about dark elves and shifters it compairs to Wendy's story like you wouldn't believe. I wish I knew you so I could send you a copy to view. I've been getting rejections from agents for about a year and am starting to consider self publishing. I know that once it's out there it's only a matter of time before a publisher picks it up. I'm not conceited it's just that good and also only the first book in trilogy. Any thoughts? How does an inspiring author get an actual author to read their work? And if this is possible I would love for you to read mine. Were the same age and seem to have the same writing techniques it would amaze you. I'm halfway through Switched thinking 'yeah right!' The whole time. Ill check back to this page soon and hopefully see something from you. Keep going Amanda as will I.

  22. I just finished reading torn a few days ago and I loved it! I am looking forward to reading ascend and learning how everything works out for the Trylle and Vittra! I mean, I loved how in the end it was revealed that Tove hopes he can change some things in Trylle when he is king. (like being able to love whomever you choose etc.) I also hope that when Wendy becomes queen she will change the way the manskling are treated and stop the whole changeling tradition and improve the quality of life for the trackers. :) I love this trilogy!

  38. Okay, I love your books and have literally reread each of them ten times. I wish I could say something really cool, like you made me love reading, but I would be lying. I have always love reading and stay up until one in the morning every day reading. But, you have made me love reading even more, and you have made me set very high expectations for other authors to reach. And few of them can reach my expectations. But you set the bar high. And very few authors can achieve what you have.

  39. Hey Amanda Hocking,
I love your books and I have read so many of them. Torn is my favourite book out of the Trylle Trilogy and I think that you have down a fantastic job writing books. I can read your books in like 4 hours because they draw you in and you can't stop reading. Once I have finished reading them, I reread them just to make sure that I hadn't missed a word. I read ascend as well I also loved it too and I think you finished it off nicely. I would just like to know. Where does it say that Tove is gay? I can't find it.

    Thx.
