21 Days

Holy cow, it's only three weeks until Ascend comes out. Time flies when you're having fun and all that. Since Ascend is the final book in the Trylle trilogy, I'm trying to think of some fun things that I can do to celebrate. I have a couple ideas, but they're still in the idea stage.

Oh, and I have fun news for fans of the Trylle books and people excited about the new Watersong series. But I can't tell you yet. It's a bit too soon. But trust me when I tell you that it's fun.

I started writing this blog like eights hours, but get distracted by life. Oh, life, how tricky you are.

Oh, hey, while I've got you here - what are some fun things you guys would like me to do for the promotion of Ascend?

Before you ask, here are some things I won't (or can't) do:
  • change the ending of any book
  • do a book signing in your city (At least not right now. I'm not doing any touring for this book, because I'm busy working on other books right now.)
  • make the movie come out any faster (For more info on the movie, please check: here, but nothing new has happened on it)

I am considering doing a charity auction on eBay. That I would really like to do, actually. But I haven't figured out how to set one up, what charity I would want the proceeds to go to, or what all I'd auction off. When I come up with more, I'll let you know.

But otherwise I am open to ideas!

The first four chapters of Ascend are up: here for you check it out, if you're interested. (Scroll down the page and click Read the Excerpt. I can't link directly to it.)

Anyway. That's all for now. Have a wonderful day and a pleasant tomorrow!

  2. I read the series on my Kindle a couple years ago, and have recommended them to several people. Yesterday, one of my students came up to me to show me she bought it. I got so excited! I was bouncing all day.

    1. Thats a good idea. There are a million charities out there, the hard thing is finding one where most of the funds go for what you think they should be going for.

  7. It'd be a long process, so I don't know if you'd want to do it, unless you got help...but you could make pink ribbon bookmarks with the name of your book on it and sell them. Lots of people buy breast cancer items: braclets, pins, etc. And then the money can go to the breast cancer association.
Another charity that is worthy is the children's hospitals.

  8. Run a competition where your fans can send you photos of them advertising Ascend in a cool way. If you run it on facebook, others can vote for their favorite photo, and get their friends to vote. It's also a great way to encourage more facebook followers and *coughs* get some free and relevant photos you can use for promotion.
I ran something similar in February that you can check out here: www.facebook.com/a.finlay.author
Oh, make sure you have a super cool prize too. For example, I ran one where the prize was a charm bracelet which has charms relevant to my novel.
    Good luck!!!

  10. You can just party at home to celebrate. How about working to schedule a book signing this summer in Southern California. I would like to meet you and get copies of Torn and Ascend signed. Because of a lucky coincidence, a friend of mine lives near you and got me a signed copy of Switched the second week in January from Barnes and Noble in Rochester. Please come to So Cal soon.

  11. I love that you want to raise money for charities. A couple charities close to your home could be Blooming Prairie's Boys and Girl's Club of America or Blooming Prairie's Education Foundation. I know I would check out your eBay Auction.

  12. Hi I really enjoyed Switched, and thank you for signed copy, will cherished it. Please stop by shared author page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Message-To-My-Children-2-Fantasy-Escapism/103661739691732 and let the Indie authors and readers help with suggestions to which charities or contest your kindness could assist of the most needed.Respectfully, Sue Catherine. Added note; suggestion developing a concept month and have all fans contribute ideas. Like what kind of videos or songs could be linked to your stories. A DVD dedicated to the fantasy behind the stories to listen to.

  14. If we're talking charities, my all-time favorites are no-kill animal shelters, as well as animal rights advocates. As for things to do to promote Ascend, giveaways are always awesome. You can ask people to like your facebook page and enter there, that way you get more fans and build up excitement.

And you can do another one of those vlogs and answer questions. They're always pretty cool!

  15. You could auction off an evening with Eric. That would be really neat.

  16. Would you consider Girls Write Now as your charity?

  17. The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis would be a great place to donate! They hold events and have classes for writers of all levels and experience. There are not many places like it.

  18. You could look into any Domestic Violence Shelters in your area. They are always in need of donations and they are non-profit organizations that frequently get looked over and ignored. That's awesome of you to do charity work as well!

P.S. Love that your blogging a lot like you used too. :)

  19. Okay, I am going to try this idea again, as last time the Ipad erased my comment. Perhaps it didn't think highly enough of it, but here goes. How about writing a love scene with Finn that could be thought of as a kind of deleted scene(e.g. the real deal)? It wouldn't have to alter the story line at all if, in the end, it ended up just one of Wendy's dreams;). Just to give Finn a little bit of a comeback?
