Preview of Awesome Things to Come

Oh, oh, fun stuff! Remember the other day when I was talking about Wake a whole bunch and about how the Watersong series is so much fun to write and I love it so much and I want to marry it and have little baby bookmarks with it but I can't because I would get paper cuts? (Okay, I didn't use those exact words, but I thought some of them).

Anyway - an excerpt for Wake is up now! For you to read! Just click: here and scroll down to the bottom and then click on the part that says "Read an Excerpt." (I believe in the UK, they are frequently called an "extract," which for some reason really tickles my fancy.)

For those of you unfamiliar with Watersong, here's the deal:

It's a brand-new never-before-published four book series coming out with my publisher (St. Martin's in the US, Pan Macmillion abroad). Wake - the first book - will be out August 7, 2012 in the US (I believe August 9 elsewhere), and it will be in ebook, audio, and hardcover. This is kinda cool because I've never had a hardcover book in the US before - only paperback..

Anywhere, here's the description and beautiful, amazing cover by James Porto (my favorite photographer ever, for reals):

Beautiful. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Thea, and Lexi have caught everyone's attention, including the eye of practical Harper. But it's her sister, Gemma, they've chosen to be part of their group.

Sixteen-year-old Gemma seems to have it all - carefree, pretty, and falling in love with the boy next door. But her greatest passion has always been the water. She craves late night swims under the stars, where she can be alone yet belong to the sea. Lately she's had company. Penn, Thea, and Lexi spend their nights dancing, singing, and partying on the cove--and one night Gemma joins them. When she wakes up groggy on the beach the next morning, she knows something has changed.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. As she uncovers the truth about her new mythical powers, Gemma is forced to choose between staying with those she loves or entering a dark world brimming with unimaginable secrets.

For an added bonus, you can click here to check out the soundtrack I made for Wake. I make soundtracks for all my books, because I'm OCD like that. And you can listen to Florence + the Machine "Never Let Me Go" right here, because no song has ever fit a book more than this song with this book. (For added fun, you could listen to that song and read the excerpt.)

I've gotten a couple fun pictures of Ascend, but I'm waiting until more of the UK/Aussie/South Africa/Asia people can way in. Ascend comes out there today, and I hope you all like it! I've heard form a few people in the UK and Australia that they've already snatched up copies, so that's fun.

And here's the brand new book trailer for Ascend, if you want to check that out:

I also heard from publisher that people are grabbing up Ascend like hotcakes, so I want to thank all of you again for being so amazingly supportive and dedicated and just all around awesome. It's because of you that I get to spend my nights playing make believe with a laptop. Thank you!!!!!

  1. I'm so SO glad that you chose to use the phrase 'dying robot llama' in the VERY FIRST sentence of Chapter 1. CLEARLY, this is going to be another awesome read. ;) Can't wait for more!!

  2. I like! What an intriguing start to the story.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Alex's car is a 1967 Mercury Cougar, which would make it a bazillion times more awesome.

  4. I just finished Torn and I was looking at Ascend for kindle yesterday and I was so annoyed to discover it was a pre-order so imagine how great it was to find out it is re-released today! P.S. Love the author photos in the paperback versions of Switched and Torn.

  6. A friend of mine lent me her copies of Switched and Torn, and I immediately had to download Ascend on my kindle. I ordered it on the 22nd, and it was downloaded on the 24th at midnight. I stayed up all night and had it finished by breakfast. I can't wait for what you have next!

I'm also an aspiring author in the Midwest, and while I know that your story is not typical, it really inspired me to keep plugging!

  7. Well, I may sound obsessed but that is totally okay because I sometimes do become utterly obsessed. So this week (and the previous one) me and my sister phoned in stores that sold books close to us and sadly none of them had them in stock yet. I finally asked my father (coming up with a brillaint plan) to let my sister's mom take me to Barnes & Noble and at last I bought Ascend! I was so happy! I started reading from eleven-thirtyish at night to alnost four in the morning (my eyes found themselves closing without me wanting to) and once I woke up the next morning (today) I continued and finished reading in the early afternoon. It was a great adventure. I loved, loved this series so much. I even had this moment when I yelled when I thought someone died in the story. I almost cried too. My little brother was there during that time and must have thought I totally lost it...Other than that I'm a big fan and I am totally inspired by you Amanda! I hope one day I can be as great as you are! XD You're so awesometastic!!!

    1. Oh yeah, I really liked the bonue short story as well. It was a great way to give insight into Wendy's future shortly after the war. It made it more possible to know that she would live happily ever after and that things ended well with everyone. :)

  9. OK. So, I read the excerpt with the song playing. You completely floored me with the Llama. I haven't actually read your books yet (mainly because I don't read much), but that excerpt just converted me. I love your quirkiness. I'm going to start my collection of your books. Thanks for writing them.

  12. The entire Trylle trilogy was impeccable! I literally couldn't put any of those books down. I hated having to use my bookmark with this series. Can't wait for the Watersong series! After reading the excerpt I have no doubt that I'll feel the same way about it! Well done!

  13. Hey, since you wondering, I'm from Asia specifically Malaysia and had grabbed & finished your book. Awesome!. In terms, of promotion, we got the usual poster in front of the store but I think it doing great as a) The poster is big and eye-catching. b) It's right at the front door. c) There's some free US Trip competition d) It's under bestseller section. So, you're good in terms of promotion. However, if you got a movie deal will prompt more people to buy (with gorgeous actors and actress of course). Anyway, keep up the good work. Can't wait for Watersong.

  17. Let me start by saying that I've read nearly every book you have currently available and have loved them all immensely. I'm eager to read Wake, but when I read the excerpt I personally found the unannounced P.O.V switches jarring and a bit confusing at first. Was the excerpt shown in the final format for the book? I also noticed the same thing in Virtue, though otherwise really enjoyed the story. I don't want to sound like a snotty know-it-all, but maybe you could use something like ***character name*** with a space above and below to indicate the change in P.O.V? Just a suggestion.
